Yours truly is up for a 2010 Texas Social Media Award sponsored by the Austin American-Statesman.
The gist of my nomination? That I effectively use online social media (blogs and Twitter) to promote off-the beaten path stories, like home gardens (past, present and future) and rural life (see my work at DailyYonder.com).
Moreover, given that in a short two-year span, THIS lowly, independent victory garden blog (see archive) has received noteworthy press in publications such as Hobby Farm & Home, San Antonio Express-News, Country Lifestyle, CNN.com and on CNN’s Your Money – not to mention Horticulture Magazine’s site–I think there’s a decent case to be made. I was also one of the first bloggers to sign on with the successful, bipartisan EatTheView.org campaign that persuaded Mrs. Obama to plant a garden at the White House.
To sum up, I think I’ve helped to put cultural reporting (and a bit of garden activism) into the heart of “social media.”
If you’d like to help my “campaign,” then here are the relevant links:
The awards (and there will be 25 of them, so I’ve got slightly better than a snowball’s chance at winning) will be announced “on or about” March 3, 2010.
Thanks for considering this request of support!
