Perfect Together: Draw Write Now Books and the Show Me App

I love blending old school and new school pedagogy techniques.

They’re like little recipes for learning!

Here’s a great one to pack in the car when you’re traveling this holiday season, one that I dreamed up because we couldn’t locate a handwriting app that suited us. Yesterday we paired one of the  Draw Write Now series by Marie Hablitzel and Kim Stitzer (we’ve got Book One: On the Farm, Kids & Critters, & Storybook Characters) with the Show Me app for iPad. It worked brilliantly for us. Tater created a little hand-drawn hen in seconds.

He also added a few “bawk-bawks” to his sketch.

That’s right… with this pairing of book and app, kids can practice drawing and handwriting lessons simultaneously with their own sounds in the background! They can also save and share the content.

Have your doubts? Here let me show you in a new window.

Now guess what? Hablitzel and Stitzer have a book dedicated to pilgrims and Native Americans that sounds great for older kids, especially with Thanksgiving on the horizon. So you can add in a dash of history. Very cool.

What other book and app pairings do you use–or can you think of?
