There once was a boy who had very dirty feet.
Ever heard of a story starter?
Basically, it’s a phrase, sentence or image that sparks a writer or storyteller to weave a tale by filling in the who, what, when, where, and why behind the prompt.
Story starters are great for young writers and even pre-writing children. I recall vividly loving them as a child, and my son and I have a whole Pinterest board full of photo story starters. We’ve got a little bit of everything over there: crazy cats, shiny rocks and even Angry Birds Easter eggs.
You and your kids are welcome to share our collection.
More great story starter resources include:
- Scholastic.com’s Story Starters
- Free Illustrated Story Starters
- We love our Rory’s Story Cubes so much that I featured them in a Technorati article on the kid’s version of NaNoWriMo.
I’d love to hear where your children get their story ideas!
