Three Wacky, Wonderful Wintertime Uses for Vodka

This ridiculously sexist 2006 faux vintage ad from New Zealand has a teeny-tiny ring of truth to it: you can do things with vodka around the house besides the obvious.

For example, you can…

Clean Your House

Vodka works a lot like vinegar but without the lingering smell. Put some water and vodka in a spray bottle (2:1 ratio of H2o to spirits) and you can use it to clean and disinfect your shower, your toilet, etcetera. You also use it straight to clean your jewelry once a month or so. Oh, I could go on and on, but I’ll let this e-How lady fill you in on the other cleaning options.

Pickle Your Paperwhites

Tired of too-leggy narcissus stalks? Start ’em off right with a mixture of vodka and water. Here’s how.

Spike Your Piecrust

This terrific piecrust recipe from Cook’s Illustrated owes it’s awesomeness to 1/4 cup cold vodka.
